Some cognates of the Old English term:
Icelandic: rjómi
Faroese: rómi
Norwegian: rømme
West Frisian: rjemme
East Frisian: Room
Dutch: room
High German: Rahm
I would say most english speakers are unaware of the fact that they speak a germanic tongue. English shares much more in common with Icelandic or German than it ever has with either Latin or French. This blog exists to demonstrate this and praps make just a few more people aware of what they're speaking.
